Early Warning Signs that You May be Diabetic

Have you been feeling fatigued? Do you find yourself drinking more water or other liquids to quench a strong thirst quite often? While you may think that you are just tired or dehydrated, you could be experiencing early symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes.

This type of Diabetes develops due to excess glucose, or sugar, in your blood. The buildup of sugar in the blood is because the body no longer uses insulin correctly. Being overweight, family history and poor diet are risk factors for the disease.

If you have one of these risk factors and notice that you are experiencing these symptoms, you should give our offices a call so that we can perform a blood glucose test or a blood test to obtain your A1C level. An A1C level test looks at the amount of sugar in your blood over a 3-month period and provides us with a longer-term view of how your body is utilizing insulin.

Early Symptoms

Each of these symptoms could be due to another cause, but if you are experiencing more than one symptom, there is a likely chance this will lead to Type 2 Diabetes. These are all risk factors which lead to the disease.

Excessive Thirst – It is one of the first signs of being diabetic that you may notice. Why would you be thirsty? When sugar increases in the blood, the body will try to eliminate it and dilute it, which makes you thirsty. If you usually drink 4-5 glasses of water each day and find yourself drinking 7 or 8 glasses, you should take note of it.

Increased Urination – Because you are drinking more liquids, you will need to go to the bathroom more often. As you drink more water, your kidneys will filter out the excess blood sugar, and eliminate it through your urine.

Increased Hunger – Due to the increased blood sugar, the body will produce more insulin, which has a side effect of increasing your hunger. If you are not a snacker, but notice that you are snacking more throughout the day, it may be due to increased blood sugar.

Tiredness or Fatigue – Normally, glucose in your blood is used as a fuel by your muscles. Insulin plays a significant role in this process. Since the body is not using insulin properly, your muscles are not getting as much of this fuel, resulting in tiredness.

Are you noticing these symptoms in yourself or a loved one? It most likely could be due to Type 2 Diabetes, especially if you or your loved have any of the risk factors. The good news is that Type 2 Diabetes is preventable and reversible. Make an appointment today to speak to and find out how you can reverse your symptoms.
