What Can People Do to Avoid Type 2 Diabetes?

Whether you have been diagnosed as having Pre-diabetes or are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes, the good news is that it can be avoided. For most people, Type 2 Diabetes is preventable. There are some with a genetic risk, but even for them, there are steps that can be taken to prevent it. 

There are three main risk factors for developing diabetes outside of genetics. Are you overweight, inactive and over eating? Even if you are just one of these, your risk for developing the disease is high. If you are diagnosed with Pre-Diabetes, it means you are already on the path to developing Type 2 Diabetes.

 

 

To avoid developing Diabetes, there are several steps that you take. First, you need to stop being inactive. Not only does exercise help you lose weight, it forces the body to use the energy you have stored inside it. A good exercise plan should the 3-4 days of aerobic exercise of 30 minutes sessions. On the days without the intense exercise, a long walk or bike ride helps to keep your body burning energy.

 

After developing a good exercise plan, you should create a healthier diet. This diet should be high in lean protein and a low carb diet. You should plan meals that include fibrous vegetables as the primary source of nutrients. Good foods to eat are Beans, nuts, whole grains, fruits, and lean meats. Foods to avoid, or eat sparingly, are white bread, white rice, high fructose corn syrup, white potatoes, fried foods and fatty meats.
